At Thrush & Son®, we believe in giving second chances—not just to people, but to those who need it most. Our official mascot, BooBoo, is a living testament to resilience, love, and the power of community. Her story is one of heartbreak, survival, and ultimate transformation, and it’s one that we share not just to celebrate her victory, but to bring awareness to a growing issue that affects neighborhoods everywhere.
A Tragic Beginning
When Miami Valley Pit Crew (MVPC) first rescued BooBoo, she was known as Black Betty. Found in an abandoned crate, emaciated, sick, and weighing only 24 pounds, she had been discarded like trash. She was so weak she couldn’t move, and the cruelty report detailed unimaginable neglect, including severe maggot infestations in all four of her feet.
The harsh reality is that this level of suffering doesn’t happen overnight. At just 5 months old, it is likely that she had never known a proper meal—only surviving on whatever she could find in the small, filthy crate where she was left to die.

The Reality We Must Face
BooBoo’s story is not an isolated case. Cases of severe neglect and abuse are becoming far too common in our communities. Every day, animals are mistreated, abandoned, and left to suffer—right under our noses. The problem is not just “someone else’s” responsibility; it’s a community-wide issue that demands attention and action.
We often hear, “If it doesn’t affect me, it’s not my problem.” But the truth is, it is all of our problem. Turning a blind eye only allows these horrors to continue. If you see something, say something, and, more importantly, DO something.
A New Beginning
Despite the unthinkable cruelty she endured, BooBoo is a survivor. Under the dedicated care of the MVPC team, she regained her strength, and by the time she was adopted by Corey from Thrush & Son®, she had grown to 45 pounds. Today, she is thriving at a healthy 80 pounds and loving life with her forever family.
Now, as the official mascot of Thrush & Son®, BooBoo is a symbol of resilience and hope. She reminds us that, with love and compassion, even the darkest pasts can lead to the brightest futures.
